The Lofts at Reynolds Village
Kirk Boone, developer of the successful luxury residential community Reynolds Mountain, has secured $30 million in FHA backed financing to complete six, 4 story, mixed use buildings, which will include 201 luxury apartments and nearly 65,000 square feet in street level office, retail and restaurant space. The first building is scheduled for occupancy in early 2011 and the entire series of four story buildings will be completed by the end of 2011. The ongoing commercial development, known as Reynolds Village, is located at the foot of Reynolds Mountain residential development and will include a business park, anchored by AvL Technologies, a town square, ample street level parking, green space, wide sidewalks and plazas, outdoor dining and gathering areas, public art and water features. This project will provide the primary element of the planned downtown corridor for the Town of Woodfin in Reynolds Village.
With the desire of many people to downsize into smaller residences, there is an increasing demand in the Asheville community for high quality rental properties with on-site and built-in amenities. Answering this demand has been a challenge for local developers due to the difficulty in funding such large scale projects. Boone identified strategic partners Scott Neely, Ted Simaan, Paul Henshaw, and after a two year qualifying process, was able to obtain financing through Oppenheimer Multi-family and Health Care Finance. The funding is backed by an FHA insured mortgage, the first of its type in North or South Carolina. Construction has already begun on the project.
Reynolds Village was initially seeded by a $20 million TIF (Tax Incremental Funding) through the allocation of Tax Incremental Revenue. The development group worked with leaders from the Town of Woodfin, Buncombe County and the State of North Carolina to secure only the second TIF project statewide. In addition to AvL Technologies, Reynolds Village tenants include the YMCA, CarePartners, ResCare, Edward Jones and several local businesses. Adjacent to Reynolds Village is Reynolds Park, a 160 acre parcel, slated for residential, recreational and medical office development in the coming two years.
The project architect is PDI Architecture of Pendelton SC, Samet Corporation from Greensboro is the general contractor and Asheville firm Samsel Architects is providing exterior and interior design services.
A ground breaking ceremony took place Tuesday, November 9th in front of the project and included political and community leaders who have been instrumental in creating jobs and growing our local economy.

Reynolds Mountain Residents Help Woodfin Students go Back to School in Style
Each year, the Woodfin Police Department organizes a drive to provide school supplies and back-to-school clothing and shoes for area students in need. This year, Reynolds Mountain residents Tom and Lee Chapman hosted an open house, collecting supplies and raising money to augment the Town’s efforts. The result was an overwhelming success. Back-to-school donations filled an SUV and the Chapmans collected $1100 to be used to help fund the free lunch program. Thanks to the Woodfin Police Department and the generosity of people like the Chapmans and their neighbors at Reynolds Mountain, dozens of children in Woodfin will have the tools and clothing they need to start a successful new school year.
